Question Number: 18773

Law 5 - The Referee 4/13/2008

RE: rec, competative Under 18

Doug Anderson of Orillia, Ontario Canada asks...

This question is a follow up to question 18449

I strongly agree with the sentiments expressed about the ability to give a card post match, for cause. He questioned the refs authority was given a reasonable chance to walk away and chimed in with something he ought not to have.

But, isn't dissent a yellow, not a red?

DSA

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

Dissent is a caution and yellow. Language that is abusive, insulting or offensive is send off offense and a red card. It's up to the referee to decide what constitutes either case. For me, someone mouthing off after a match is usually being insulting or offensive and is punished accordingly.

Answer provided by Referee Ben Mueller

Yes. Anything that the referee deems abusive/insulting/offensive should be delt with appropriatly. Just because the match ends does not give players the right to act like that.
