Question Number: 18946

League Specific 4/30/2008

Steve of Stockton, CA USA asks...

This question is a follow up to question 18882

I can only think of two situations where subs do not have to report: at the end of a period, and after a goal. What's the third?

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

The three are:

When a player is cautioned, [Rule 3.3.2]

When a player is injured [blood issues are the same], [Rule 3.3.2]

When a goalkeeper is disqualified. [Rule 3.3.2 Situation B]

Note in all three of these cases if substitutes have previously reported to the scorer or to the nearest official they, too, may replace a player. If no substitute has reported ONLY the substitute replacing the aforementioned player may enter the field. [Rule 3.2.b.-d]

At the beginning of a period or after a goal the substitute MUST report to the scorer or the nearest official but may enter without being beckoned by the referee. [Rule 3.4.b]

Little known facts. Have fun.

Regards,
