Question Number: 19710

Law 16 - Goal Kick 8/8/2008

RE: Rec Under 15

Peter of Stockton, CA USA asks...

This question is a follow up to question 19628

Hi

All the answers seem to imply that if the ball crosses and 18 yard line and then the goal line it is a corner kick, how about the aweful (for the goalie) scenario of the ball crossing the 18 yard line, doing a 180 turn and heading straight back into the net. To me, this would be a goal, correct?

Cheers

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

Peter Law 16 tells us otherwise in its second sentence. Referees are supposed to know this, and know it cold. Time for a recert.

Regards,

This is a restart. What is the rule about scoring on yourself at any restart?

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

Simple answer is NO GOAL!

The only way it could be a GOOD goal after it was kicked from inside the penalty area beyond the penalty area and the ball did the wind thing coming back atcha is another player other than the kicker, be he attacker or defender gets a touch ofthe ball before it entered into the goal under the crossbar between the posts.

A goal may be scored directly from a goal kick, but *only* against the opposing team.
You can not apply advantage on a ball kicked directly into your OWN goal from a restart

If the kicker did get a second touch of the ball before it entered the goal it is an indfk from that point subject to the goal area provisions in law 13 again no advantage can be applied on a second touch.

Cheers
