Question Number: 20673Kicks From The Penalty mark 12/17/2008RE: Under 16 Terry Allen of Coffs Harbour, NSW Australia asks...This question is a follow up to question 20670 I notice you state 'pso' is the abbreviation used in the match results. I assume this refers to 'Penatly Shoot Out'. Isn't the correct term 'Kicks from the Penalty Mark'? If so, then what is the correct abbreviation? (I cannot find one in your list of 'Common Acronyms') Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney I suspect it is more likely something along the line of 'points scored on' or some such thing. It wasn't our abbreviation, anyway. The term for the procedure of determining a winner is KFTPM as you note. What they call the score is a mystery to me.

While they are likely to be more accurate than your average TV announcer, they still do use their own choice of words. 'pso' may indeed stand for penalty shoot out, although any other set of words that fit are equally possible. 'Shoot out' strikes me as an Americanism, but maybe not.
