Mechanics 10/21/2009

RE: Competitive Adult

William Ocampo of Missouri City, TX USA asks...

What is the proper procedure to document goals and cards?

I have always instructed my AR's that center first, the AR whose side the goal was scored second, and the far side AR last. This way we always have to refs watching the field.

Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney

The USSF Guide to Procedures, pages 25 & 26, tells us the trail assistant records first - since the lead AR and referee are still making sure there is nothing needing their attention near the goal. The referee records after attaining her position for the kick-off. The lead AR records after the trail assistant has recorded.

The Guide is online at the www.ussoccer.com under referees, and Laws of the Game.
