Question Number: 30287

Law 11 - Offside 4/14/2016

RE: Competitive Adult

Andy Hollingsworth of Thornhill , Dumfries Scotland asks...

This question is a follow up to question 30282

Thanks for the response, the player was at least 10 yds offside when the shot was taken. I feel in this case there may be confusion as to whether the block by the defender was deemed to be a deliberate attempt to play the ball, does this effect the ruling, in this instance despite our protests the referee gave the goal and ran to the centre circle shouting at my team mates that the goal stood and they should 'learn the rules'

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Andy
The block by the defender could have been determined as a deliberate play in which case offside is reset.
Have a look at this video.
https://vimeo.com/105993087
The AR determined that the touch by Blue was a deliberate play and therefore a reset

In this video the AR determined that the touch by a Red was a deflection so the offside was called.
