Question Number: 30890Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 10/13/2016RE: Select / Competitive Under 17 Brad of Plymouth, Michigan United States asks...This question is a follow up to question 30880 The scenario noted of a player hanging by the crossbar in order to head the ball made me think...while it is clearly a DOGSO, what is the actual foul (and thus restart)? It certainly can fall under PIADM, which would be an IFK--that seems the most obvious infraction to assess. Certainly if the player threw a bottle/shinguard/shoe at the ball in-flight, we can call Handling and DOGSO-H (thus a PK). But for this situation, it appears we have no DFK foul that can be associated with this. So it seems for this instance that we have the case of a DOGSO-F, but one which does NOT result in PK. Correct, or have I overlooked something? All the best. Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Brad The restart is an indirect free kick on the 6 yards line directly opposite from where the offence took place.

The restart for starting play for misconduct that is not a foul is an indirect free kick. Since it's an offense that is punished with a free kick and it denied an obvious goal scoring opportunity, it's upgraded to a sendoff.
