Question Number: 34077

Law 14 - The Penalty kick 12/10/2020

RE: Select Under 19

Chris Payne of Suwanee, GA USA asks...

During a PK, the keeper infringed by not starting on the goal line which the AR called out. The PK was missed and cleared. A retake was awarded. Is it mandatory that the same player takes the second PK?

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

HI Chris,
any legal player/team mate on the FOP can retake provided the referee is informed.
There is NO stipulation it must be the original kicker.
If this was KFTPM to decide match outcome the only stipulation would be whom ever retook the kick must not have already taken a turn, all eligable players must shoot once before any can go again. Nor do they have to go in the same order.
Cheers

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Chris
No the kicker can be changed as it is a new kick. The referee though must be advised of the change with the new kicker clearly identified.
